New Year’s in NYC x AFR

No, the whole AFR Team didn’t come together to take over the Big Apple. Now that would be writing a few thousand words about. But my brother and I, alongside a couple of friends, did enjoy a few festivities and quite a bit of footy.

We sat down and watched the Chinese Real Madrid take on the Chinese Manchester United in Chinatown. We kicked around in Brooklyn (East River Park and McCarren Park) with an immense image of Manhattan in the distance. After footy in BK, we built up an appetite and travelled to the legendary Di Fara pizzeria, the best in the city, which is owned by a 75-year-old Napoli fan. We also stopped by The Football Factory bar and sat amongst Toon Army NYC and Liverpool fans only to watch Craig Bellamy and Steven Gerrard steal the show. Obviously, our adventures in the city didn’t end there, but let’s just say 2012 is off to a great start. This year could be special, and not just because we think the hipsters we found playing bicycle polo should be in the summer Olympics.

Best, Eric Beard
